5 AI devices we're watching
Beyond the Muse Charm, these are the devices we've ranked as the strongest candidates for future Drip Wire coverage — judged on launch readiness, accessory potential, and whether the early window is still open.
Meta VR Glasses — confirmed for Spring 2027 at $1,299.99, with a brand-new split form factor (100g glasses + tethered compute puck) that no existing accessory fits. Six-month pre-launch window, zero dedicated accessory coverage yet, and a maker with a proven accessory aftermarket. The full hub treatment starts here.

1. Meta VR Glasses
Meta · Confirmed at Connect 2026 · Ships Spring 2027 · $1,299.99
100g glasses tethered by fiber-optic cable to a 300g pocketable compute puck running Horizon OS. No existing case, strap, or lens protector fits this architecture — the accessory category starts from zero. Obvious slots: travel cases, puck pouches, prescription inserts, light-blocking shields, battery banks. Meta hardware has a proven accessory aftermarket (Quest cases and straps dominate VR accessory best-sellers). New competitor to track: Valve's Steam Frame ($1,059, shipping since Sept 2026) — the obvious comparison review once both are in buyers' hands. First angles: price/release hub, "will your Quest 3 case fit?" (no), and a living best-accessories listicle.
2. Gemini smart glasses
Google + Samsung + Warby Parker + Gentle Monster · Confirmed · Launching November 2026 (per Samsung official) · Price unannounced (reported $349–499)
Audio-first smart glasses (camera, open-ear audio, no in-lens display yet) with full prescription-lens support and fashion frames, sold under Samsung's "Intelligent Eyewear" branding. A Samsung official narrowed the window to November 2026 (via The Korea Herald, Sept 30, 2026); the same report puts the US price at $349–499, which Samsung has not confirmed — treat the price as reported, not official. Eyewear is the most accessory-natural AI form factor: prescription lenses, charging cases and docks, travel cases, straps. The Ray-Ban Meta accessory market proves the demand template. The window is now weeks, not months — coverage needs to move fast.
3. Apple smart glasses
Apple · Rumor (Gurman, Kuo) · Late 2027 target rumored · Price unknown
Camera-equipped AI glasses in the Ray-Ban Meta mold, reportedly. Gurman's latest (Power On, Sept 27, 2026) puts the target at late 2027 — a slip from his earlier reveal-2026/ship-2027 expectation — with a possible unveiling at WWDC 2027. Apple hardware generates the largest pre-launch search demand in the category, which makes this the classic early-SEO play: own the price/release-date/rumor queries now, layer in accessory coverage when frames leak. Honest caveat: it's the most rumor-dependent pick — keep investment to hubs and comparisons until Apple confirms.
4. Amazon Bee
Amazon · Confirmed · Available now · $49.99 (+ $19/mo subscription for advanced features)
Screen-free AI companion worn as a clip or bracelet. The co-founder has explicitly said the vision includes "an escalation of accessories." At $50 it's giftable holiday stocking-stuffer territory — a volume play for gift guides rather than high-ticket commissions. Angles: the subscription-worth-it question, AI-gift guides, and a pendant/recorder category comparison nobody owns yet.
5. OpenAI AI companion device (formerly "io")
OpenAI + Jony Ive · Confirmed project, delayed · Not shipping before late February 2027 (per Feb 2026 court filing) · Price unknown
A screen-free pocket "AI companion" — explicitly not a wearable, per court filings. Delayed: OpenAI told a court it will not ship before the end of February 2027 (filing first reported by Wired, Feb 2026), and has dropped the "io" name entirely following the iyO trademark dispute. The accessory fit is the thinnest of the five (cases, docks, stands), but the curiosity-driven search demand will be enormous: the first hardware from the ChatGPT company, designed by Jony Ive. Treat as a traffic lottery ticket, not an accessory plan. Don't over-invest before the reveal.
How we rank
- Launch readiness
- Confirmed dates beat rumors. A device with no credible launch signal doesn't make the list.
- Accessory fit
- Wearables and physical gadgets with cases, straps, lenses, and docks score highest. Screen-free pebbles score lowest.
- Window still open
- We only cover devices where early content can still win — before accessory makers and big publishers arrive. (That's why Samsung's Galaxy XR, already launched, didn't make it.)
- Honesty
- Rumors are labeled as rumors. If a pick depends on unconfirmed details, we say so on the page.
